Volunteer

From the very beginning of Penn State Rugby in 1962, volunteers have been our lifeblood. For decades, every task of PSU Rugby--coaching, finance, scheduling, travel, and even laundry--was done entirely by volunteers. As the sport evolved on campus during the new millennium, the volunteers of the PSU Rugby Alumni Club were critically important in planning and supporting the transition to Team Sports.

Even though Rugby at Penn State now enjoys many benefits that we could only have dreamed about ten years ago, the need is just as great now--maybe even more so--to be supported by an eager, active, and involved volunteer network. Our organization is much more complex, the competition is keener, and the resources required to be successful much greater.

Here are some of the volunteer opportunities we have. There are activities of many varieties and time commitments. How can you help?

Fundraising
Help with our raffles or bring us an idea or opportunity that you can help organize and guide. Contact board member Andy Haines at andyhaines64@gmail.com

Merchandising
We sell PSU Rugby logo merchandise at home matches, events, and camps and clinics. We need help transporting, setting up, and overseeing student volunteers as well as new product ideas. Great for someone local to State College! Contact Kara Amoratis at kara@psurugby.org

Communications and Networking
Can you help us communicate about upcoming events, write a column of rugby-interest news for the Web site, or help us connect alumni with each other and to students for internships, mentoring, or job opportunities? Contact board member Stacy Foley at stacy_foley@merck.com

Events
Our two big annual events are the reunion, held during the August PSU move-in weekend, and the football tailgate, normally held in November. We always need help with planning, logistics, and execution for these events as well as new ideas to increase attendance. Contact Becky Williams at becky@psurugby.org or Kara Amoratis at kara@psurugby.org

50th/Hall Archives
2012 is our 50th anniversary. We need help in locating photographs, rosters, news articles, and memorabilia in advance of this milestone. Work could include contacting teammates for information, scanning and uploading digital data, and helping interns at the office in State College organize and file items. Contact Bob Langton at lang2k@ptd.net

Recruiting/Scouting
Our professional staff and coaches may need help filming an upcoming opponent in your area or ask you to go talk to a potential recruit on their behalf. Register with the office if you are willing to help. Contact Don Ferrell at daf4@psu.edu

Alumni Recruiting/Organizing
We often need people from the different eras to be involved with events, fundraisers, games, and recruiting to peak interest and encourage participation.  If you have interest in being an Era Captain, to represent and organize your year, please contact Jeff Lutton at jeff@psurugby.org
