Parents

The parents of Penn State Rugby are tremendously active and supportive of the program.  They donate their time and money to make sure that their son's have the best experience possible.

Parent Network

One of the great services the parents do is to provide food to the players of the team and their opponents.  The socializing after the game is an important part of rugby culture and the parents have made Penn State one of the best hosts in the rugby community. Check the men's teams news to see the latest parent information.

If you are a parent, family or friend and you are interested in joining our network please email Don Ferrell.

Parent Financial Support

While we get significant administrative support from the University, Penn State Rugby gets the same amount of financial support as we received 15 years ago, and it makes up about 10% of our operating expenses.  Donations from our parents are a critical income for us to operate.  If you have given already this year, thank you so much for your support.  If you have not yet given please think about doing so.  You can give to Penn State Rugby online, or you can send a check to:

Penn State Rugby
PO Box 967
State College, PA 16804

Every dollar you give will go to cover the operating costs of the team and thank you for your support.

Player Benefits

Players who are members of  Penn State Rugby get significant benefits.  These include:
  • Medical coverage - Penn State provides a trainer for rugby at all events and offer rehabilitation every day for injured players.
  • Varsity Athlete Health Insurance - Athletes that are injured while participating in rugby have any out of pocket expenses covered by Penn State.  First going to the primary insurer, Penn State acts as the secondary insurer and therefore the player has no expenses for injuries.  Penn State also covers the athletes within their catastrophic injury coverage.
  • Academic Adviser Program - Penn State Rugby has a network of academic advisers within the University that are assigned athletes to support their school work.  All freshman and transfer students are required to participate, and the program is available to all athletes by request.
  • Full-time professional staff - Penn State Rugby is one of a handful of collegiate programs that have full time professional staff within the Athletic Department assigned to rugby.  This guarantees that your son or daughter will always have appropriate support during their rugby career at Penn State.
