The 2010 Penn State summer rugby camps concluded recently, and both were very successful. With nearly 100 participants in both the Academy, and the inaugural Advanced Skills camp, enrollment was up over 20% from last years academy.

Although “a bit warm” for the first few days, the Happy Valley weather chose to cooperate thankfully for the rest of the time, and the comments from the campers were glowingly positive. I’m sure the fact that we stayed in the only air conditioned dorms on campus didn’t hurt.

Young rugby players from all over this country, and several from others, spent their time learning everything from the very basics, to the latest concepts in defense and attack strategies, and positional and unit play from the excellent camp staff of PSU coaches, players, and guest coaches.  Special thanks must go out to this year’s staff as they remained professional and inspirational through two different camps with no break in between!!

The level of play of the campers continues to improve each year, and with the number of solid recruit prospects that were identified, these camps continue to serve many purposes for our program, and the young rugby athletes who attend.
