The Penn State Men’s Rugby team will be hosting a recruiting event on November 4th-5th for High School Seniors that are interested in attending Penn State and playing for one of the most successful collegiate rugby program in the country.

Freshmen who have played rugby in High School have become more and more important to the team’s success in recent years.  As many as 9 true freshmen started last fall and spring, including matches against Cambridge (UK), BYU, Utah, and the entire spring Rugby East CPD (D1A) season.

“Through graduation, injuries, and the incredible increases in the numbers and levels of high school rugby players and programs, the contributions of our freshmen on our top side has definitely increased” said Don Ferrell, Penn State Men’s Team Head Coach.  “Regardless of what side you play for, we get games for every player on the squad, and the best players regardless of their year in school play on our competitive sides (A and B) in the spring D1A (CPD) season” he added.

Penn State Rugby has an elevated status on campus and is designated as a team sport in the Athletics dept. That includes extra support such as 2 full-time rugby administrators, admissions support, varsity athlete health insurance as well as access to the full medical and strength and conditioning resources of Penn State.  These resources in an athletic department like Penn State’s, places the program on an equal footing with any program in the country.

The Penn State Recruiting weekend will start with an opportunity for the recruits to meet the team at the team training Friday evening, and join players and staff for a fun event later that night. Then you will meet the with the coaching staff on Saturday morning, where you will learn about the Penn State Rugby program and will also learn about the admissions process. The weekend will conclude Saturday afternoon with a Q&A and tour of our facilities.
