Each year Penn State Rugby needs to raise money in order to operate as the competitive team that we are. We do a variety of fundraisers from getting people to eat at Five Guys to creating a yearbook program. As any Penn State Rugby Alumni can tell you, not a year goes by that we don’t clean Beaver Stadium to raise money as well. Each year at the Alumni Barbeque, following preseason, there are many people double checking that we still do this fundraiser, not necessarily because of the money it brings in, but because it is something you will always remember doing as a member of this team. The answer is always, yes.

About two weeks ago both the men and women worked together to clean half the stadium after the football game the day before. We were lucky this year to have very nice weather on the day of the cleanup. We were also very fortunate to have such a large group of people working together. We arrived at 7am and were out by 12 noon. In my opinion, the best thing to come out of stadium cleanup each year is not the money, it’s the bond we create between new and returning players. It tests our ability to work together as a team and a program and I think this year it ran very smoothly.
