The Penn State mens sevens team’s first foray into the collegiate sevens arena did not go as hoped as the team went winless on the weekend. Although clearly disappointed, everyone involved will clearly come away with valuable lessons from this initial event. Playing their first competitive sevens together, the team continued to improve with each match, and with all but 2 of the 12 players eligible to return, the leadership and experience they will be able to bring to future sevens events will be extremely valuable to the program.

The event was truly incredible, and first class all the way. The teams were well looked after, and to a man the team agreed that it was the best field they had ever played on. Judging from the Championship final, there is definitely an exciting future for collegiate sevens.

Thanks to the players and staff of this initial Penn State collegiate sevens team for all their hard work, and commitment. Especially the players who jumped right into this days after completing their long 15’s season, and gave up part of their summer break to represent Penn State University, and the Penn State rugby program on national television.
