The PSU men’s team has been putting in some excellent work in preparation for the upcoming Collegiate Sevens Invitational Championships. A talented group of Penn State rugby athletes have been going through an intensive 7’s training and learning process under the guidance of head coach Peter Baggetta, and assistants Don Ferrell, and Jon Swart.
The team met for some informal “introduction to sevens” sessions twice a week through the last two weeks of school, and then got together for a camp held last weekend. This first camp went very well, and coach Baggetta lauded those in attendance for their hard work, stating that ” it was a very positive camp, and everyone who attended impressed with their work and learning”.
In addition to a training camp, this first camp also served as a selection vehicle for both the next camp, and the traveling team. Everyone in attendance earned another look at the next camp and 9 of the players have been selected to make the 12 man traveling side who will compete in Columbus. Congratulations to Joe Baker, Arnold Chavis, Mike Erickson, Jon Intrieri, Ben Janssen, Kevin Kimble, Bryan Oteri, Jim Rosato, and Chris Saint. Competition for the remaining spots will be fierce due in no small part to all the talent still in contention, and the coaches will certainly have a tough job in naming the final squad.
Please come out and support the Penn State Men’s Sevens side in Columbus! Nothing would be more helpful than to have the stands full of PSU faithful as we take on this exciting challenge on live national television.
