The PSU Men’s team season ended this afternoon at the hands of the Cal Rugby buzzsaw in the round of 8 in Marietta, Ga. Having posted a record of 24 – 0 this year, Cal has truly proven to be the team to beat in Men’s D1, and unfortunately a very game PSU side was simply overmatched.

The team played with tremendous heart for the full 80 minutes, and were able to put 19 points on the board for their efforts. This ties them with San Diego State for the most points scored against Cal’s A side all season.

Although moral victories such at this do little to ease the sting of the defeat felt by the players, the coaching staff unanimously agreed that this was a tremendous effort and learning experience for us, and feels confident that we will be better for it in the future.

Thanks to all for your tremendous support this season. It was a great ride, which unfortunately came to an end too soon. The team will be back in action next week, with a pair of matches against Bucknell and Lock Haven.

Also, stay tuned for details about our upcoming participation in the USA Sevens Collegiate Invitational Championships to be held in June, and broadcast on NBC!

Thanks to all the players and staff for a great season, and to the seniors, thank you for all you have meant to Penn State Rugby!
