The PSU men’s sevens team arrived in Columbus yesterday for this inaugural, historic event. The team and staff arrived none the worse for wear, and immediately set out for the practice fields. After a brief workout to get the travel out of our legs, we checked into our accommodations and set back out for the pitch, and our first “hit out” against Arizona. This proved to be a valuable experience for both sides, and both staffs got together later that evening to discuss what we saw and look at some video.
Today began with a team meeting after breakfast, and then it was back to the training pitches for our last pre-tournament “hit-out” against Harvard. Although the weather didn’t seem to want to cooperate, the team was able to get what we wanted out of the rainy session. The players will now have the rest of the afternoon off to recover.
Tonight there is a welcome reception for all teams at a local establishment sponsored by the event organizers, then its another team meeting and sleep.
The tournament begins for the young PSU side tomorrow evening at 7:30pm with our opening pool match against Bowling Green. The team is excited, and anxious to finally play a real match (and hit somebody!)
Check back for more updates as the weekend progresses, and don’t forget to tune into NBC Saturday at 5:30pm to see us take on rivals Ohio State!
