The time has arrived for the Penn State Men’s team to find out exactly where they stand amongst the elite college mens rugby teams in the country, and to a man the players and staff alike are very excited for the challenges that lie ahead of them.

So far this spring season has seen them play Super League men’s club Old Blue in Holuba Hall. The Lions lost that very physical contest 25-20 (5 trys to 4, no conversions were kicked) with the final whistle finding Penn State camped on the Old Blue 5 meter line, knocking on the door of the match tying score.

In the next 3 weeks the # 7 Nittany Lion ruggers will face # 5 St. Mary’s, # 2 Cal Berkeley, and # 1 Life University in “friendlies” to close out preparations for the start of their 2013 D1A league season. The first two of these matches will take place during the teams upcoming spring break tour to California. The match against # 1 Life will be held in the familiar surroundings of West Campus pitch on the Penn State campus, and will be the teams final match before they face the University of Delaware in their league opener on March 23rd.

“To be the type of team we believe we can be, you need to test yourself regularly against the best competition you can find” stated team Captain, senior lock Ryan Goulding. ” You would be very hard pressed to find better competition then what the coaches have set up for us, and we are very excited for the opportunity to go to battle with 3 of the top 5 teams in the country”.

For those of you in the Bay area, check the schedule page for Spring Break match locations and times, and please make every effort to come back to Happy Valley for the March 16th clash against Life!!
