The Penn State Women’s Rugby Team  (0-1) started their season off against #4 Women’s Premier League Team New York Rugby Club (1-0).  This was the first of a very competitive fall that includes DI Elite Semi-Final competitor, Life University, fellow DI Elite competitor Lindenwood and perennial Military academy powerhouse Army.

Penn State  started the scoring with an intercepted pass that was dotted down under the post by Gabby Cantorna who preceded to convert her try.  NY followed up with a try on the outside off a line out to even the score 7-7.

Through the course of three 40 minutes periods New York would see the try zone 11 times taking advantage of their significant edge in the set piece.  In the end the Nittany Lions would only score 4 tries and convert 1.

Senior Cantorna said “the team showed a considerable amount of effort, heart and work ethic throughout the game and we came away knowing where we need to improve over the next two months”.  Head Coach, Kate Daley agreed and was also excited to see the potential the team has, especially she stated among the incoming freshmen.

The team plays Kutztown as their last preseason warm up game at home next Saturday September 10th before getting into their conference play the following weekend against the University of Michigan.
