University Park, Pa. – The women’s team will hit the road Wednesday for the final time during the 2010-11 campaign, traveling to Palo Alto, Ca. for the USA Rugby National Championship Series Round of 4.  Penn State will square off against Mid-Atlantic runner-up Virginia, Friday at 1 PM (EST) inside Steuber Stadium.

Following the conclusion of classes at Penn State, the squad immediately went into a rigorous training schedule.  Six practices were crammed into a four day period in order to prepare the squad for its final portion of the season.

“The practices have purposefully been intense, but it has been nice to have the extra time to go over things that we want to improve upon as a team,” said head coach Peter Steinberg

The team will have some recovery time before its final practice on Thursday on the Stanford campus.

29 ruggers and 15 staff members comprise the traveling group that is in search of its third-consecutive national championship, seventh in program history.

“Everyone is just excited and really looking forward to the trip,” said director of rugby Don Ferrell.  “It definitely will be interesting this year because it is the first time we won’t be playing Stanford out [in Palo Alto].”

The team will return home on Sunday evening.
